SDG 17 – Partnership for the Goals

Goal: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development

The world today is more interconnected than ever before and the 2030 Agenda can only be realised through global partnership and cooperation. The implementation of the goals requires global solidarity, capacity development and mobilisation of financial resources to ensure that no country or group is left behind in development. International investment and coordinated policies are needed to ensure innovative technological development, fair trade, reliable monitoring and support in humanitarian crises. The exchange of knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources are all essential components for achieving the goals, in particular to meet the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable countries. Goal 17 provides a toolkit for making the 2030 Agenda a reality.

Through the organization’s efforts and contributions to strengthened local democracy, ICLD contributes directly to the following sub-goals:

17.9 Enhance international support for implementing effective and targeted capacity-building in developing countries to support national plans to implement all the Sustainable Development Goals, including through North-South, South-South and triangular cooperation
17.14 Enhance policy coherence for sustainable development
17.16 Enhance the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development, complemented by multi-stakeholder partnerships that mobilize and share knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources, to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in all countries, in particular developing countries
17.17 Encourage and promote effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships, building on the experience and resourcing strategies of partnerships Indicators

To help ensure that all our funded project contribute to SDG 17, we have also made available a Toolbox for peer learning, and two online courses dedicated to supporting you to communicate with international partners: Strategic communication and intercultural relations.

To be inspired on localizing SDG 17, we recommend this video from UCLG:
