Goal: Reduce inequality within and among countries
The basis for a sustainable society is a fair distribution of resources and economic, social and political empowerment. An equal society is based on the principle of equal rights and opportunities for all, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, age or other status. Although many countries have experienced positive economic development with poverty reduction in recent decades, inequalities have widened both within and between countries. Equality reduces the risk of conflict and promotes the ability of all people to participate in and influence the development of society. Through its actions and contributions to strengthening local democracy, ICLD contributes directly to the following sub-goals:
10.2 By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status
10.3 Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices and promoting appropriate legislation, policies and action in this regard
