For inspiration, watch this video that was presented at HLPF 2022 side event on VLRs with snapshots from Pereira (Columbia) and Bonn (Germany).

Please read this toolbox, which provides support to local governments that are interested in monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using the Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs), while contributing to local democracy. The stories and practical tips presented provides first-hand knowledge of the VLRs that local governments are developing to assess the implementation of the SDGs in their contexts.

Whether or not you see the format of a VLRs as relevant for you at this stage, it contains useful tips on how to think about monitoring progress and evaluating SDG projects, and can therefore help your ICLD project.

Toolbox for VLR, Voluntary Local Reviews

Does your local government want to conduct a Voluntary Local Review?
ICLD is supporting VLRs using participatory methodologies in local governments, which place emphasis on inclusivity and community participation. Stay tuned for an aggregated research report on the use of participatory research methods in VLRs. Is your local government interested in doing a participatory VLR and have necessary skills or connections to local researchers? Contact ICLD.

If you are interested, here is the research report on which the toolbox is based. It is a longer read but provides deeper contextual information. https://icld.se/publikationer/reporting-on-the-implementation-of-the-sustainable-development-goals-in-sweden-vlrs-and-their-implications-for-local-democracy/
