Module 1. Overview of SDG Localisation

Welcome

This course on the localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aims to provide learners with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved in bringing the SDGs to life at the local level, and to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to support this process through your ICLD project. It does so through providing:

  • An overview of the SDGs and their importance in addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation.
  • An overview of the role of local governments and communities in achieving the SDGs, including the need for collaboration and coordination across different levels of governance.
  • Strategies for incorporating the SDGs into local policies and plans, such as through the use of indicators and targets.
  • Tools and approaches for engaging stakeholders in the localization process, including community members, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
  • Case studies of successful initiatives for localising the SDGs, highlighting the challenges and opportunities involved.
  • The role of international organisations, such as the United Nations, in supporting the localisation of the SDGs.

One of ICLD’s overall objective is to support you the localisation of the SDGs in your local government though your ICLD project. In your ICLD project, you may start with varying levels of knowledge of the SDGs. Even if you have a deep understanding of them, it is important to start off your ICLD project with a common baseline level of knowledge of localising the Global Goals. Conducting this online course together as partners can help ensure this common baseline.
