Gender sensitive communication means using language that is inclusive, promotes gender equality, and ensures that both men and women are equally visible and treated fairly. The language we use is crucial in shaping and interpreting our understanding of the world around us.
When we talk about gender equality in language, it means treating all people – whether they identify as male, female, or something else – with the same level of respect, dignity, and value. Everyone should be addressed in a way that shows they are important and equal.
There are three types of language that fall on an ‘inclusivity scale’.
