Module 4: Gender Responsive Communication

10 Principles of Gender Responsive Communication

Here are 10 principles developed by UNDP called “Let’s speak gender” that could serve as the foundation for a culture of gender-responsive communication within your local government.

Gender-responsive communication is communication activities actions that address the different needs, perspectives and representations of all genders. In order to be responsive, communication activities and actions need to go beyond increasing awareness and take action to reduce inequalities and promote gender equality.

We suggest you review the presentation below before conducting communication activities as part of of your year 1,2 or 3 actions plans of your ICLD project. Before doing this, take a look at your own local government website/social media: is it gender responsive or falling into the trap of gender stereotypes? This exercise can also be conducted within an ICLD network workshop to receive input from your peers.

If you are interested in finding out more about strategic communication take our ICLD online course available at learn.icld.se called: “Strategic communication“
